Methow Valley Community Preparedness Committee
The purpose of the Methow Valley Community Preparedness Committee (CPC) is to prepare citizens to meet basic needs in the face of unforeseen economic, energy, or environmental disruptions and to re-localize and strengthen our valley’s economy.
Welcome to CPC! We are a new community-based organization dedicated to helping prepare our community to become more self-sufficient and resilient in the face of multiple challenges. Whether your concern is the economic recession and providing for your family, possible shortages of food or fuel, environmental issues, or the realities of living in a fire zone, being prepared as a community can create confidence in the future.
At CPC we hope to improve the capacity of our community to weather unforeseen events by exploring the challenges we face and possible solutions to them. Over the course of the next year, we will be hosting public education events on local emergency preparedness, economic security, food security, energy security, and climate change. Each event will include local and regional experts that can help our community better understand these challenges, followed by discussions on possible ways we can meet them. In between we plan to organize fun interactive events that get our community working together to improve local resiliency and self-sufficiency in these areas.
By pulling together the collective genius of the Methow Valley we can hope to develop creative systems to ensure that regardless of what happens with the broader economy, our government, the environment or the cost of food and fuel, we can successfully care for our community’s children, elders, and each other.
We hope you will join us.
(Cheerful disclaimer!)
Just in case you were under the impression that CPC is a process defined by people who have all the answers, you need to be aware of a key fact.
We truly don't know if this will work. This is a social experiment on a large scale.
What we are convinced of is this:
- If we wait for the governments, it'll be too little, too late
- If we act as individuals, it'll be too little
- But if we act as communities, it might just be enough, just in time.
Everything that you read on this site is the result of real work undertaken in the real world with community engagement at its heart. This site is brought to you by people who are actively engaged in building a resilient community. People who are learning by doing - and learning all the time. People who understand that we can't sit back and wait for someone else to do the work. People like you.
